Criminal LawWe would all like to think there will never be a need to require the services of a criminal law specialist. Sadly it is sometimes the case that an allegation is made or a summons lands on the doormat necessitating expert advice. A matter which initially appears minor could have wide ranging implications such as possible disqualification from driving or an entry on a criminal record. Invariably the key is to seek legal advice without delay. Frequently cases are won and lost by what happens in the early stages. At Marchants we have a very busy advocacy department covering cases in all the local Magistrates and Crown Courts as well as a number further afield. We have experience of a wide range of case from murder to minor road traffic offences. We also cover Prison Law cases. Within our department we can call on the services of two advocates with the prestigious Higher Rights Of Advocacy qualification in Criminal Law and a total of 5 advocates qualified to act as duty solicitors at both court and the police station. The members of the department are:- Chris Lacey, head of the department. Chris has Higher Rights of Advocacy in Crime and is a member of the duty solicitor panel. Chris is also a member of the LSC Peer Review and Funding Review Panels. Donna Pursglove who heads the firms Crown Court department is a duty solicitor. Annette Parkin who heads the firms Prison Law department is also a duty solicitor. Steve Williams works with us on a part-time basis. Steve is both a Higher Courts Advocate in Crime as well as being a duty solicitor. Jayne Sullivan is a duty solicitor. Jayne, through being a member of the Children Panel provides an excellent link between the firms Criminal and Family departments. We pride ourselves on our 24 hour emergency rota which means we are always available to arrange cover in relation to court and police station emergencies.
